101 Bad Ideas: Idea Number Four

Hey, here’s a new idea: violence in the Middle East! It’s just crazy enough to work.

Rightwing rabbis in Israel are reportedly urging religious Jews to seek revenge for the recent — disgusting — Palestinian attack on a Jerusalem seminary, perhaps by attacking an “Arab official.” This would accomplish nothing, of course, but they are quoting from scripture to support the idea, so they must be right.

Somehow, the Middle East consistently manages to be both terrifying and boring.

  1. I do not support individuals taking matters into their own hands, as the rabbis suggested, but I do think increased violence (by the government of Israel with the support and involvement of the United States and any other willing nation) directed at the Palestinian population is the way to go. Until their collective pain is greater than their allegiance to their ideology of hate and destruction, the surrogate Palestinians and their Jihadist handlers will continue to rely on terrorism to attain their goal, which is to wipe Israel off the map. So, as much as I would like to see a peaceful Middle East, I think a massive assault (military, economic, etc.) on the populations that support terrorism is the best way to counter terrorism. Terrorists arise from a willing population, and that willingness to support and applaud terrorism must be changed in a population before peace is possible. When their pain is too great, people will forget terrorism and ideology and long for peace. The defeat of Nazi Germany in WWII demonstrated this truth.
