Never Gonna Shut Up

April 30, 2008 at 10:19 am | In Miscellaneous | No Comments

Thanks to everyone who came out last night for the Canadian launch of S.U.I.T. I’m sorry I said all those bad things about you after you left.

If you somehow didn’t happen to be watching morning TV in Canada yesterday (What is wrong with you?), you can see my appearance on Canada AM here. I wanted to talk about my new cookbook, Shut Up, I’m Broiling, or at very least give helpful advice on getting ready for bikini season, but the host didn’t seem receptive to it.

And if that’s just not enough for you, you can catch me on Toronto talk radio this afternoon, sometime around 4:30 on CFRB 1010.

Shut Up, I’m Talking in Toronto

April 29, 2008 at 6:25 am | In Books | No Comments

The Toronto Star has a nice piece about me today — take a look.

And two reminders:

– I’ll be on Canada AM this morning at 8:15.

– Tonight at 7:30, at the Gladstone Hotel on Queen Street West here in Toronto, we’ll be having the Canadian launch for Shut Up, I’m Talking, as part of This Is Not A Reading Series. Be there.

I’ve now trekked up from New York to Toronto, for the next part of “Shut Up, I’m Touring.”

If you happen to be in the sprawling, empty tundra called Canada, here is some stuff you might want to know:

1. This afternoon, I’ll be on CBC Radio One’s Here and Now at 4:30 PM. You should be able to hear it around Southern Ontario, I’m told.

2. Tomorrow, I’ll be on one of Canada’s most popular morning TV shows, Canada AM. I’ll be teaching favorite recipes from my new cookbook, “Shut Up, I’m Broiling.”

3. Tomorrow night at 7:30, I’ll be having my Canadian launch. It’s at the Gladstone Hotel on Queen Street West, is sponsored by Simon & Schuster, Pages Bookstore, and Eye Weekly, and is part of This Is Not a Reading Series. Be there.

Nathan Burstein has a very kind article in The Forward about my book. Take a look.

That’s the news. Now here’s Arthur with the weather:

Today I’ll be on “The World,” a co-production of BBC World Service and PRI – broadcast on an NPR station near you. To check what time and what station it will be on in your city, go here.

But wait — there’s more:

Tomorrow at 5 PM ET, I’ll be a guest on Gary Baumgarten’s News Talk Online.

And on Saturday, at 10:30 AM PT, I’ll be on CBS Radio’s affiliate in Los Angeles, KNX 1070 — and that will be apparently be replayed throughout the weekend.

I will try to mention your name on each of these shows.

UPDATE: You can listen to me on “The World” here.

UPDATE 2: My appearance on News Talk Online has been postponed.

Al Qaeda Comes to Israel’s Defense

April 23, 2008 at 10:42 am | In Middle East | 2 Comments

Don’t you hate it when other people get credit for your accomplishments? Al Qaeda sure does!

Apparently, the terrorist network is getting irritated by the persistent rumors in the Middle East that Israel was to blame for 9-11 — and it’s trying to counter them. It’s just not fair, they contend. All that hard work and the Jews are getting the credit.

Full story from the BBC here.

UPDATE: Commenter and Friend-of-the-Blog Phil G. informs me that The Onion anticipated this would happen:

Shut Up, I’m Talking in New York

April 22, 2008 at 8:21 am | In Miscellaneous | 1 Comment

As promised, there is an excerpt of my book in Salon today.  Take a look.

Also, Canada’s National Post has a piece about my book today that, I think, comes at it from a bit of a different angle.

And a reminder: if you’re in the New York area, I’ll be doing a reading/signing of the damn thing at Borders at Park and 57th tonight at 7 PM. Be there.

Oh, by the way, Shut Up, I’m Talking came out today.

If Tomorrow Wasn’t Such A Long Time

April 21, 2008 at 1:07 pm | In Miscellaneous | No Comments

I realize I’ve been pestering you people about my book for some time now and that it must be getting pretty monotonous. After all this book stuff dies down for me, I promise to get back to important stuff — like discussing the political leanings of very young children.

But for now, Shut Up, I’m Talking is a day away from publication, so the pestering will continue mercilessly, and today it will be divided into three parts:

1. For an extra discount, you should order your copy by the end of today.

2. If you want to wait to read yet another excerpt, it is scheduled to be excerpted in Salon tomorrow.

3. If you’re in the New York area, you should come to my first reading/signing. It’s tomorrow, April 22nd, at 7 PM at the Borders at Park and 57th. Just in case you don’t recognize me: I’ll be the one reading from and signing my book.

A Rare Weekend Blog Post: Be True To Your School 2

April 20, 2008 at 10:39 am | In Miscellaneous | No Comments

I almost never post on this blog on the weekend, but I think I’m going to have a lot of other stuff to say tomorrow, and this probably doesn’t warrant a whole weekday post anyway.

It only fits at all, I realize, because over the past few weeks this blog has devolved into a place for me to awkwardly brag about decidedly questionable accomplishments while engaging in high-pressure selling.

In any case:

My graduate school alma mater has kindly decided to give me a nod in their latest list of alumni goings-on. They get the facts amusingly wrong — try to spot the crucial error — but it’s the thought that counts. To let some violet into your heart, you can take a look at it here.

Fisticuffs: Round Three

April 18, 2008 at 7:24 am | In Miscellaneous | 3 Comments

Since last week, Jewcy has been hosting a dialogue about my book between Shmuel Rosner, Haaretz’s chief US correspondent, and me. In the first round he came out swinging and I responded. In the second, I think we took the rhetoric down a notch.

Now, the third and last round is up and, at least on the surface, we seem to be in agreement about most things. It’s a good place to end, with everyone on the same page and smiling — you know, like in the Middle East.

You can see his latest missive here, and my response here.
