Sarcasm Is Sometimes Hard To Blog

The Israeli Parliament has passed a law making territorial withdrawal possible only by referendum. I guess the 40+ years of occupation since the 1967 war have shown that this is necessary, what with prior governments just giving up land so willy-nilly.

The Jews According to Rachel

“Jews dearly love to fight among themselves over petty bullshit. It helps them forget about all the other people out to get them.”

– Rachel Shukert, in her new book, Have You No Shame?

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Rachel, and will be writing more about her book soon.

According to BoingBoing, starting on select commercial flights today, you will be able to waste everyone’s time with email forwards and youtube videos without having to wait until your plane lands.

Finally, en route from JFK to LAX, you will be able to watch that Chocolate Rain guy non-stop:

What an exciting time to be alive.

1. Indiana’s Jewish Post & Opinion has published a very kind review of Shut Up, I’m Talking.

2. Daniel B., international vagabond and Friend of the Blog — who was recently described by a bookseller as my “creepy friend” — has a funny little post about the dangers of flying. Read it if you want to live.

It Was Nice Spending the Weekend In Your House

This past weekend I was on The Bob Edwards show on NPR on both Saturday and Sunday (and on Satellite radio a few days earlier). Mr. Edwards lived up to his reputation as a fantastic interviewer, and I really liked the result.

“Strong, tough, and battle-ready are some of the words often associated with robots, but we wanted to break that stereotype and provide a robot that’s sweet.”

Bound for Movin’ On

For the first time in a long time, I am now able to spend a bit of time on things other than Shut Up, I’m Talking. Today I’m in the midst of working on a new article for Salon, as well as some other new journalistic endeavors.

I’m also, however, sketching out a possible second book. I have some ideas of what it may be, but I would certainly be interested in hearing any suggestions. Here are some possibilities for you to consider:

1. A 1000 page book about a haunted apple tree.

2. A story about how I applied for an internship at the Jordanian consulate and all kinds of hijinks ensued.

3. Shut Up, I’m Broiling – Recipes from the United Nations (which I first mentioned here)

4. Shut Up, I’m Talking: The Musical Pop-Up Book

Would any of these appeal?

I just walked by a television set, and although I am not sure what was on, I am 100 percent sure I heard someone on it say:

“There is no more need to have strangers come to your house, spraying poison around your children.”
